Welshpool Livestock Sales report on its weekly auction held at Buttington Cross on Monday.

OTMS (35)

A similar entry of Otms this week to last seeing an overall average of 104.34ppkg. Topping the otm section was CJ & ME Williams, Minysarn, with a 792kg Limousin cow making £1100.88 (139ppkg) RT & MSC Jones, Rhydfaes, presented a 808kg Limousin cow making £1042.32 (129ppkg).  Heifers under 48 months topped at £959.90 (148ppkg)  for a 662kg 44 month old Limousin from JJ Price & Co, The Farm.

PRIME HOGGETS (3265)

An entry of 3265 prime hoggets selling to an average of 183.22ppkg (-0.05ppkg)

Super Lights (48) to 138ppkg from M & H Evans, Nantgolau. Others to 130ppkg from PA Lloyd & TS Wierzbinski. Average of 136.58ppkg.

Lights (291) to 196ppkg from S Hardy, The Bryn. Others to 178ppkg from DG & BE Jenkins, Gaerfawr. Average of 160.81ppkg.

Standards (736) to 209ppkg from S Hardy, The Bryn. Others to 198ppkg from C D Jones, Bedol. Average of 175.90ppkg.

Mediums (1399) to 228ppkg from H Isaac, Llwynderw. Others to 226ppkg from TE & MA Jerman, Penyffridd. Average of 189.57ppkg.

Heavies (634) to 206ppkg from T D Jones & Co, The Bryn. Others to 201ppkg from E H Pennie & Son, Gwern-Yr-Ychain. Average of 185.65ppkg.

Over Weights (102) to 181ppkg from EJ & AJ Roberts, Longlands. Others to 178ppkg from Francis Partners, Penllwyn. Average of 168.68ppkg.

It is advised that Hoggets are belly clipped.

CULL SHEEP (1901)

A good entry of cull sheep met with averages of £52.29 for ewes and £72.26 for rams. CJ & ME Williams, Minysarn, topped the ewes with a pen of two making £111. TH, ME & EJ Jones, Plas Coch, presented three ewes making £106. Rams topped at £118 from F & MJ Williams, Cefngwilgy Fach.

CULL EWE VENDORS: Please ensure all cull sheep are correctly identified when offered for sale at the market.

STORE LAMBS

Another pleasing entry of 654 store lambs entering the market this week selling to an overall average of £51.17. Continental x medium weight lambs looked a good trade with smaller, plainer lambs being slightly easier.

Top call today went to G W Jones, Henfryn for Mule tup lambs realising £69 with T E A Owen, Hollybush selling Texel x mixed/clean lambs selling to £67.50. Texel x theave lambs from D A & S J Jones, Dyffryn selling to £63 and tup lambs from the same home to £66.

COWS AND CALVES

An entry of 15 cows and calves met with a top price of £2280 for a Limousin x 1st calver with her Limousin bull calf from I G Jones, Buarth Yr Oen, Also from the same home was a similar out fit making £2250. A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows £2000 + 3lots, £1800 - £2000 1 lots, £1600 - £1800 1 lots, £1400 - £1600 1 lot, £1200 - £1400 3 lots, £1000 - £1200 4 lots, <£1000 2 lots.

PEDIGREE IN-LAMB TEXELS

Mrs J Stonall presented 15 in-lamb pedigree Texel ewes reaching a top of 165gns. Yearling ewes averaged £144.38 and aged ewes averaged £118.65.
