Welshpool Livestock Sales had a lively day’s auction at Buttington Cross on Monday.

OTMS (17)

A small entry of 17 Otms selling to an average of 108ppkg. Topping the otm section was R G Francis & Son, Craignant, with a Limousin 740kg cow making £858.40 (116ppkg). EE & MJ Jones & Sons, Cwmbychan, presented a 64 months 627kg  British Blue cow making £764.94 (122ppkg). Heifers under 48 months topped at £1142.08 (172ppkg) for a 664kg Limousin cow from D P Evans, Moel Y Garth.

From Monday 29th February TB Tested Otm cows will be sold at 9 am in Ring 2, to be unloaded in bays 19 – 24. Followed by non-TB Tested cows in Ring 1, to be unloaded in bays 25 – 28.

PLEASE DO NOT UNLOAD IN WRONG BAYS.

Lights (122) to 193ppkg from C J Sheen, Waen farm. Others to 192ppkg from T & D Jones, Dolwen. Average of 174.63ppkg.

Standards (406) to 263ppkg from E L Evans, Derlwyn. Others to 226ppkg from E L Evans, Derlwyn. Average of 180.00ppkg.

Mediums (773) to 214ppkg from R T Ellis, Lower Peniarth. Others to 205ppkg from J G Ellis & Son, Tynewydd. Average of 174.28ppkg.

Heavies (1776) to 287ppkg from E L Evans, Derlwyn. Others to 260ppkg from E L Evans, Derlwyn. Average of 174.37ppkg.

Over Weights (613) to 261ppkg from G Davies, Lan Farm. Others to 259ppkg from R A Owen, Tynewydd. Average of 153.67ppkg.

It is advised that Hoggets are belly clipped.

PRIME LAMBS (547)

An entry of 547 prime lambs selling to an average of 248.30ppkg.

Lights (20) to 264ppkg from R J Lunt, Planfa. Others to 240ppkg from M Davies, Pantyrofyn. Average of 235.21ppkg.

Standards (408) to 334ppkg from C Tomlinson, Agden Dairy Farm. Others to 327pkg from C Tomlinson, Agden Dairy Farm. Average of 248.43ppkg.

Mediums (106) to 321ppkg from S A Cherry, The Graig. Others to 305ppkg from DW & SM Roberts, The White House.  Average of 249.60ppkg.

Heavies (9) to 274ppkg from F W Humphreys & Sons, Brook House. Others to 272ppkg from R M Evans, New House. Average of 235.80ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1567)

A small entry of 1470 ewes averaging £65.19 (-£4.62 on last week).Ewes topped at £125 for a pen of 7 from JS & A Howells, Shadog Farm. G Davies presented 2 ewes making £123. Rams topped at £157 from P E Bailey & Sons, Plas Newydd. Rams averaged £99 (+£3.50 on last week).

CADE LAMBS

An entry of 72 cades met with an average of £11. Top price of the day was £21 from KE Griffiths, Hen Felin.

COUPLES

Although the wet weather brought with it a reduced entry of 233 couples a buoyant trade was met throughout with a top price of £215 for a Texel x as found ewe with 3 Texel x lambs at foot from David Roberts, Glancamlas. A H Jones & Son, Hirrhyd, sold 3 lots of Suffolk yearling ewes with Twin Charollais x lambs for £185, £168 and £160 respectively. Iwan Roberts, Abernodwydd, presented 5 cracking pure Texel yearling ewes with single Texel lambs that sold for £178 and two pure Texel 4 year old ewes again with single lambs to £145. Messrs Breese, Fachwen, sold 6 Suffolk x yearlings with 8 lambs to £171.

Top prices for twins were as follows:

£185 – Suffolk x yearlings with twin Charollais x lambs from A H Jones & Son, Hirrhyd.

£168 – Suffolk x yearlings with twin Charollais x lambs from A H Jones & Son, Hirrhyd.

£160 – Suffolk x yearlings with twin Charollais x lambs from A H Jones & Son, Hirrhyd.

£155 – Mule Hoggs with twin Texel x lambs from I & J Evans, Llwyn Hywel.

£148- 2 Suffolk yearlings with Texel x lambs from I & J Evans, Llwyn Hywel.

Top prices for Singles were as follows:

£178 – 5 pure Texel yearlings with Texel lambs from I Roberts, Abernodwydd.

£145 – 2 pure Texel 4 year olds with Texel lambs from I Roberts, Abernodwydd.

135 – Lleyn yearling with Texel x lambs from D Roberts, Glancamlas.

£128 – Suffolk x yearling with Texel x lambs from D Roberts, Glancamlas.

£110 – Texel full mouth with Texel lambs from M Betton, Meadow View.
