‘Tasting’ social media

As a result of collaboration between the UCIL programme team, FSB and workshop hosts Menter Berllan Community Enterprise hub, Llanerfyl, two successful Social Media Taster Sessions have been delivered for local businesses.

The UCIL programme team and Lesley Long, Enterprise Hub Manager, identified an exciting opportunity to develop a day of networking and taster sessions for small businesses to learn and develop new skills and relationships.

With the rapid growth in the use of social media and digital communications in all sectors, this training allowed small businesses to discover how this powerful resource can help to develop their businesses.

Both workshops were vibrant, interactive and practical, providing the 18 employers the opportunity to further explore the benefits of using social media in their business. It was also an opportunity to meet each other and network in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.

Lesley Long Hub Manager said:

“Our first Social Media for Beginner’s workshop joint event with RLP-UKCES was a great success. We had participants from 18 SME’s and 3rd sector organisations from north Powys, many most of whom had not appreciated the compelling case for using social media as part of their business marketing strategy.

“The practical hand-on session and collaborative working in the group enabled those who were new to Facebook to set-up their own business page. Since the event we’ve had positive feedback, likes and tweets about Menter Berllan Community Enterprise Hub and some good follow up conversations about further training from those who attended.”

The Understand, Co-produce, Influence, Leadership programme (UCIL) led by a team within the RLP has received co-investment from the UK Commission for Employment and Skills through the UK Futures Programme. The programme is working with small businesses and partners in the region, to identify barriers and co-create new ways to engage with and increase take-up of leadership and entrepreneurship skills provision.
