OTMS (44)

An entry of 44 Otm cattle this week selling to an overall average of 123.20ppkg. Topping the section was F W Humphreys, Brook House Farm, with a Limousin cow weighing 929kg making £14221.37 (153ppkg). H & S Watkins, Cammen Uchaf, presented a Limousin cow weighing 832kg making £1256.32 (151ppkg). Cows 48-72months toped at £892.06(146ppkg) from G & NN Wigley, Rhosdyrnog, for a 611kg  Limousin cow. G P Vaughan & Son, Dolcorsllwyn, presented a 535kg Limousin cow making £813.20 (152ppkg).

OTM cows averaged 118.82ppkg / £774.22

OTM bulls averaged 109ppkg / £1329.80

Cows 48 – 72 months averaged 127.72ppkg / £722.96

Heifers under 48 months averaged 167.80ppkg / £1052.65

Steers under 48 moths averaged 124ppkg / £996.96

Overall average of 123.20ppkg

PRIME CATTLE

Two prime Limousin heifers forward from JM & SM Rowlands, Dolwen Farm, weighing 542kg and 578kg making 247ppkg and 246ppkg respectively.

PRIME LAMBS (3824)

An entry of 3824 prime lambs selling to an average of 175.49ppkg.

Super Lights (2) to 160ppkg from T E Rowlands AI Fab, Tyddyn Ddu. Average of 160ppkg.

Lights (384) to 189ppkg & 184ppkg  from T E Rowlands AI Fab, Tyddyn Ddu. Others to 183ppkg from D G Jones, Cefn Hir Fawr. Average of 170.56ppkg.

Standards (1217) to 209ppkg from A F Davies, Hirrhyd. Others to 205pkg from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Average of 172.67ppkg.

Mediums (2028) to 228ppkg & 224ppkg from H G Ellis & Co, Tynywern. Others to 223ppkg from D P Casewell, Tanrhiw.  Average of 177.61ppkg.

Heavies (169) to 210ppkg from G James & Sons, Penybank. Others to 207ppkg from E A Marston, New House. Average of 180.43ppkg.

Over Weights (8) to 174ppkg from MPB Ashton & Son, Belan Ddu. Others to 164ppkg from D A Williams, Tan-Y-Clawdd. Average of 162.67ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2461)

A slightly reduced entry of cull sheep this week resulting in averages of £48.46 for ewes and £64.24 for rams. Ewes topped at £95 for two ewes from J T Owen & Co, Upper Garth. Rams reached £104 from J W Hopkins, Bank Farm.

COUPLES

An entry of 147 hoggs plus their lambs were offered for sale selling to a top of £180 from F Bailey, Pensarn, for 5 Texel x hoggs with single lambs at foot. Similar lots from the same home sold to £170, £166 and £162. Mr Baileys 39 hoggs with single lambs averaged £160.40 per couple or £80.20 per life.

EB Jones, Llwyntew, presented a pen of 5 Mule hoggs with single lambs selling to £161. J V Davies & Co, Garth Fawr, presented a pen of 10 Mule Hoggs with 10 lambs making £160. Messrs Davies presented 40 Hoggs with lambs in total averaging £153.50 per couple or £76.75 per life.

COWS & CALVES

An entry of 35 cows and calves this week selling to a top of £2400 for a Red Limousin x 1^st calver with her Limousin heifer calf from DP & RE Evans, Moelygarth Farm. Another Limousin x 1^st calver with her heifer calf from the same home made £2120. 6 outfits forward from DP Evans averaged £2025. RE & CJ Davies, Boycott Hall, presented 2 Limousin x 1^st calvers one with a heifer calf the other with a bull calf making £1520 and £1640 respectively. JBC Gwilliam, Bwlch Garth, presented a Limousin x 2^nd calver with a Limousin bull calf making £1600. A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2200 + 1 lot, £2000 - £2200 2 lots, £1800 - £2000 2 lots, £1600 - £1800 5 lots, £1400-£1600 12 lots, £1200 - £1400 8 lots, £1000 - £1200 3 lots, <£1000 1 lot.
