Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a lively auction at  Buttington Cross, on Monday  with our report brought to you by Dennis Shingler & Sons.

OTMS (39)

Otm cows topped at £1256.64 (136ppkg) for a 924kg cow from JRS Hughes & Co, Lower Munllyn. E W Morgan, Fronlas, presented a Limousin cow weighing 746kg making £1171.22 (157ppkg). M P B Ashton & Son, Belan Ddu, presented a 48 – 72 month old 696kg Hereford cow making £926.48 (148ppkg)

Heifers under 48 months topped at £1039.68 (144ppkg) for a Limousin weighing 722kg from MPB Ashton & Son, Belan Ddu.

OTM Cows (x29) averaged 127.07ppkg / £834.86

Cows 48 to 72 months (x7) averaged 137.01ppkg / £867.96

Heifers Under 48 months (x4) averaged 138.29ppkg / £854.38

Bulls under 72 months  (x1) averaged 134ppkg / £905.84

Overall average of 129.61ppkg

PRIME LAMBS (9264)

A large entry of 9264 prime lambs sold to an average of 185.34ppkg.

Lights (534) to 181ppkg from R I Edwards, Brynsion. Others to 178ppkg from T H Davies & Sons, Clegyrddwr. Average of 166.96ppkg.

Standards (1700) to 234ppkg from Ellis Lloyd & Co, Garthiaen . Others to 205ppkg from R G Bebb & Co, Caermynach. Average of 178.21ppkg

Mediums (4444) to 241ppkg from M J Williams, Pontyperson. Others to 235ppkg from Ellis Lloyd & Co, Garthiaen. Average of  189.17ppkg.

Heavies (2248) to 237ppkg & 225ppkg from E L Evans, Derlwyn. Others to 223ppkg from I E Roberts & Son, Maesdyfnant. Average of 189.60ppkg.

Over Weights (534) to 198ppk  from G Bound & Son, Cefn Bach & JR, RM & JP Andrew, Bronheulog. Others to 193pkg from T & B Williams, Cil Mawr. Average of 182.30ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (3471)

A good entry of 3471 cull sheep met with averages of £48.65 for ewes and £64.30 and rams. Topping the ewe section was WRP Jones, Pant, with a single ewe making £145. DTA Williams, Upper Bolbro, sold 9 ewes making £107. Also from Mr Williams, was a pen of 3 cull rams making the top of £139.

STORE LAMBS (939)

Another pleasing entry of 940 store lambs entering the market this week selling to an overall average of £55.55. Top call went for a pen of Charollais x mixed/clean lambs from E J Emerson, Cwm Colebatch selling to £65 closely followed by Texel x mixed/clean lambs from C Wilkes, Gwernfyda selling to £64.50. A run of Charollais and Texel x theave lambs from DW & JV Jennings, Casetllan Farm sold to a top of £64 twice with T M Davies, Wynnstay Farm selling a pen of Suffolk x tup lambs to £63.50.

Store lambs to commence again from 10.30am next Monday.  Please note entries are now being taken for our catalogued Thursday night sale on 22nd September 2016.

Mixed and Clean lambs (153) averaged £59.19

Wether lambs (30) averaged £45

Tup Lambs (468) averaged £53.10

BREEDING EWES (720)

Despite not holding a catalogued sale this Monday we had a good turn out of 720 breeding ewes selling to a top of £152 for a pen of 3 pedigree Charollais yearling ewes from R J Mills, Blaenhirnant.

D A Rees, Esgair, Sold a pen of 10 ¾ Texel yearling ewes fro £150. Other Texel x yearling ewes sold to £140 from C Peake, Evenhall Farm, and £138 twice from A Brown, Lower Gwernerin.

Suffolk x yearlings sold to £140 from G & LM Jones, Bryn Tirion, and £125 from the same home. 4 year old Suffolk x ewes from P R Eans, Upper Fachwen, sold for £122. Mule yearling ewes reached £141 for a pen of 18 from A Evans, Cefn Rhyd, who also sold further pens for £128 and £125. R P Wilson, Pyllau, sold 12 Mule yearlings for £132. A run of 59 mule ewe lambs from A M Jones, Middle Farm, sold to £92 and £85.

Yearling Ewes (427) averaged £118

2 Year Old Ewes (91) averaged £80

3 Year Old Ewes (30) averaged £75

Full Mouth Ewes (75) averaged £90

As Found Ewes (39) averaged £55

Ewe Lambs (59) averaged £85

COWS & CALVES

An entry of 26 cows and calves this week selling to a top of £2100 for a Limousin x 2011 born cow with her Limousin x bull calf from M J Bower, Footbridge Farm. Also for the same home was a 2012 born Pedigree Limousin cow with a Limousin Heifer calf making £2000. M J Bower presented 7 outfits averaging £1928. E P Parkes & Sons, New House Farm, presented a Limousin x cow with her Limousin x heifer calf making £1820. R E Lewis, Manor Farm, presented a Hereford x cow with a Limousin x calf making £1700. A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2000 + 2 lots, £1800 – £2000 6 lots, £1600 - £1800 2 lots, £1400 - £1600 6 lots, £1200 - £1400 7 lots, £1000 - £1200 2 lots, <£1000 1 lot
