OTMS (45)

A good show of Otm cattle this week selling to a top of £1172.80 for a British Blue cow weighing 756kg from TM Pugh & SB Lewis, Old Hall Farm. Cows 48 – 72 months topped at £1068 for a 712kg Charolais cow from R E Astley, Rhosgomorog. B L Griffiths, Lower Penygelli, presented a 42 month old British Blue Heifer weighing 676kg making £1243.84.

Otm Bulls (x1) averaged 119ppkg / £1207.92

Cows 48 to 72 months (x8) averaged 119.2ppkg / £759.87

Heifers Under 48 months (x6) averaged 132.86ppkg / £798.02

Bulls under 72 months  (x1) averaged 113ppkg / £1264.47

PRIME LAMBS (4698)

An entry of 4698 prime lambs sold to an average of 172.15ppkg.

Lights (506) to 186ppkg from I W Richards, Park Farm. Others to 181ppkg from EJ & GM Trickey, Moat Farm. Average of 159.14ppkg.

Standards (846) to 214ppkg from M J Williams,Pontyperson. Others to 189ppkg from S P Roberts, Wenallt. Average of 170.33ppkg

Mediums (2360) to 230ppkg from D I Roberts & Son, Stingwern. Others to 206pkg from M J Williams, Pontyperson. Average of  174.59ppkg.

Heavies (780) to 214ppkg from E L Andrew, Trewern Cottage. Others to 207ppkg from S J Smith, Penybryn and T & B Williams, Cilmawr. Average of 174.65ppkg.

Over Weights (130) to 199ppkg  from E L Evans, Derlwyn. Others to 177pkg from D R Oliver & Son, Tirdu. Average of 167.91ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2455)

Today saw a slightly reduced entry of ewes totalling 2430 Ewes averaging £49.69, this was up £5 on the previous week. Topping the ewes were two ewes from LA & SM Lloyd, Severn House, making £103. J A Williams, Llechwedd-Ddyry, presented one ewe making £100. An entry of just 14 cull rams averaged £80.57 topping at £101.50 from L M Etheridge, Oakwood.

STORE LAMBS (640)

An entry of 640 store lambs met with a  top of £66 for a pen of 22 Texel x mixed and clean lambs from K A Jones, Penrhiw. S H Lloyd & Sons, Penllan, presented a pen of 40 texel x wether lambs making £65. Tup lambs topped at £65.50 for 9 texels from B E Thomas, Blaen Y Cwm.

T G Evans, Cae Cyno, presented 14 Suffolk x mixed and tup lambs making £65.50.

Averages of the day were as follows:

Theave Lambs (132) averaged £50.72

Mixed and clean lambs (219) averaged £54.04

Wether lambs (73) averaged £61.98

Tup lambs (194) averaged £52.30

Mixed and tup lambs (14) averaged £65.50

Theave and tup lambs (8) averaged £54.

BREEDING EWES (948)

An entry of 948 Breeding Ewes this week saw a steadier trade as there were more plainer ewes on offer. Topping the section was a pen of 10 Texel x Yearling from A J Potter, Grove House Farm, reaching £138. GEG & DB Davies, Brynfedwen, presented 25 Welsh yearling ewes making £135.

Two year old ewes topped at £125 of 18 Texel x ewes from E A Marston, New House. Full Mouth ewes topped at £100 for a pen of 8 and 9 Mule ewes from Exors of J P Jones. Bryntawel.

A run of Mule ewe lambs from A M Jones, Middle Farm, topped at £92.

Averages of the day were as follows:

Yearling Ewes (420) £115.52 top of £138.

Two Year Old Ewes (37) £117.03 top of £125.

Three Year Old Ewes (10) £65.

Full Mouth Ewes (195) £74.09 top of £100.

As found Ewes (76) £68.49 top of £78.

Ewes Lambs (210) £80.67 top of £92.

Next Monday (26.09) catalogued sale of 3800 breeding ewes – sale to commence at 11.30pm.

COWS & CALVES

A small seasonal entry of cows and calves met with a solid demand. Three Hereford x 2nd calvers with Limousin x heifer calves at foot sold to a top of £1680, £1450 and £1400. A 2012 British Blue cow with a Limousin heifer calf from N Kynaston, Ruyton x1 Towns, made £1280. A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £1500+ 1lot, £1400 - £1500 2 lots, £1200 - £1400 3 lots, < £1200 1 lot.
