02/02/2011 @ 02:53

Welshpool’s one-way system will finally be open and operational on Monday, February 21.

Town planners have confirmed that the final works to prepare for the new road system are well under way with warnings of disruptions as they reach their conclusion.

The traffic lights at the Cross are to be changed to temporary lights for two weeks to complete the final works and new signage is being put in place ready for the opening.

Town clerk Robert Robinson confirmed: “The road resurfacing and the permanent traffic islands will be put in after the system is in operation. The junctions will be white lined and temporary traffic islands in place at the opening time.

“The works to bring in the one way system overnight will commence around 10pm on Sunday, February 20 with completion around 4am on the Monday morning.”

To help the smooth introduction of the one way system the following publicity will be issued:

Notices to Lorries parked in the Church Street Car Park
Letters are being issued to lorries over the next week asking them to park in future in the Berriew Street Car Park.

Notices to all owners and occupiers around the One Way System
A letter will be delivered to all residents around the new road system to update them on what is happening.

Notices on the street
Two days before, Councillors and Staff of the Town Council will be out on the street handing out notices giving details and a map of the new road pattern.

Posters and web site news
News will be posted on the notice boards at the Town Hall.
The web site www.welshpooltowncouncil.com will be kept up to date.
There will also be notices and plans in the Tourist Information Office.

The key points to take into account are:

To ensure that your vehicle is pointing the right way in the street within the one way system on the night of February 20.

If you live around the new road system there could be disruption on the night of the 20.

Full information is available at the Town Clerk’s Offices and at the Tourist Information Office or by calling the Town Clerk’s Office on 01938 553142 or 07767 267830 (this number will be manned overnight as the one way system is implemented).
