Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.
OTMS (33)
A good entry of Otm cattle this week with a good brisk trade with 11 byers around the ring. We saw them topping at £1375.35 (159ppkg) for a 865kg Limousin from CV & EM Lewis, Buttington New Hall. J A Williams, LLechwedd-Ddyrys, presented a Charolais Otm cow weighing 801kg making £1353.69 (169ppkg). Cows 48 to 72 months topped at £988.20 (135ppkg) for a 732kg Limousin from E T James & R A Roberts, Dolhywel. I E Roberts & Son, Maesdyfnant, presented a 632kg Limousin cow making £916.40 (145ppkg). Heifers under 48 months topped at £1101.87 (159ppkg) for a Limousin weighing 693kg from RT & MSC Jones, Rhydfaes. JGH Griffiths, Bettws Hill, presented a 30 month old British Blue heifer weighing 603kg making £1007.01 (167ppkg).
Otm Cows (x19) averaged 122.40ppkg / £820.89.
Cows 48 to 72 months (x7) averaged 113.20ppkg / £734.
Heifers under 48 months (x6) averaged 144.10ppkg / £892.25.
Bulls Under 72 months (x1) averaged 129ppkg / £1068.12.
Overall average of 124.43ppkg – MORE CATTLE WANTED TO MEET DEMAND.

An entry of 4700 prime lambs sold to an improved average of 165.42ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1578)
Smaller entry of cull ewes this week seeing averages of £42.34 for ewes and £64.57 for rams. Topping the ewe section at £112 was DTA Williams, Upper Bolbro, with 3 ewes. Next at £90 was EH Pennie & Son, Gwern-Yr-Ychain, also with 3 ewes. Rams topped at £129 from C L & C Watkins, Bank Farm.
STORE LAMBS (816)
A good entry of store lambs for the time of year. Topping at £70.00 for 6 Texel x tup lambs from JJE Jones, Tyr Abbi. Wether lambs topped at £68.50 from V E Lewis & Son. The Garn. Mixed and clean lambs reached £63.50 from DP & CM Trant, Maesmawr Hall.
Theave Lambs (190) averaged £50.64.
Mixed and Clean Lambs (231) averaged £48.96.
Wether lambs (71) averaged £45.42.
Tup Lambs (286) averaged £47.67.
Cade Lambs - Small entry of cade lambs hit £14 averaging £13.75.
IN-LAMB EWES & COUPLES
A cracking entry of 425 in lamb ewes for Welshpool Livestock’s first catalogued sale. Trade peaked at £288 for a Pure Bred Beltex yearling carrying twins from M Owens, Glantre. Further ewes from the same home sold for £240 (twice) and £225 with the run of 11 averaging £231. A special entry of 115 Beltex x Texel ewes from E L Evans, Derlwyn, averaged £116 throughout the consignment with 6 yearlings carrying 1 single and 5 twins hitting £141, 8 x 2 year olds carrying 2 singles and 6 twin to £140. 4 x 3 year old carrying 2 singles and 2 twins to £132 and 12 4 year olds carrying 1 single and 9 twins and 2 triplets to £130.
M Williams, Criccin farm, sold 4 pure bred Beltex carrying 3 singles and 1 double for £170 with another pen exactly the same making £142. BL Griffiths , Lower Penygelli, sold 3 Beltex x 3 year old carring 2 singles and 1 twin for £153. P R Evans & Son, Fachwen, sold 5 Suffolk x 3 year old ewes carrying 1 single and 4 doubles for £135 and 5 Texel x 3 year old ewes carrying 2 singles and 3 doubles for £134.
Averages
88 yearling to £288 average £132.
47 2 year olds to £215 averaged £107.
47 3 year olds to £153 averaged £120.
59 Full mouth ewes to £98 averaged £81.
184 As found ewes to £130 averaged £91.
Couples – First entry of the year produced 25 ewes and lambs which peaked at £172 for a Suffolk x yearling with twin lambs from Jackie Payne, Plas Trehelig, who sold further lots to £168 for a Suffolk x yearling with twin lambs and also at £168 was a Suffolk x yearling with a single lamb at foot.
AP & WW Jones, Fronalchen, sold 2 Texel x ewes with single lambs for £165 and 4 Texel x ewes with a single lamb for £155.
Other twins reached £162 for a 3 year old Texel x ewe woth twin lambs from JBC Gwillim, BwlchGarth, and £148 for as found mules with twins from A & CS Lloyd, Brynglas.

COWS & CALVES
A seasonal entry of 2 cows and calves met with a solid trade for the outfits on offer. Leading the way were 3 Limousin x 1st calvers, 3-4 months back in calf with 6 month old calves at foot from D P Evans, Moelygarth, which sold for £2100, £2080, £2050. At £1700 was a Limousin x 1st calver with a Limousin heifer calf at foot presented by WI Jones & Sons, Cilcwm, Llanbrynmair, from the same home was a Limousin x 1st calver with a bull calf that sold for £1500. 2009 born cows with young Limousin bull calves at foot from R I Owen & Co, Cwmffynon, sold for £1340 and £1320.
A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2000 + 3 lots, £1700 - £2000 1 lot, £1500 - £1700 2 lots, £1300 - £1500 4 lots, £1200 - £1300 1 lot, <£1200 1 lot.
