Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (29)

Similar entry of otms this week selling to a top of £1376.08 (167ppk) for a 824kg Limousin from G Price, Hafod. CV & EM Lewis, Buttington New Hall, presented a 729kg Limousin cow making £1334.07 (183ppkg). ALSO FROM Messrs Lewis, was a younger Limousin cow weighing in at 854kg making £1571.36 (184ppkg).

Otm Cows (x19) averaged 128.03ppkg / £799.01.

Cows 48 – 72 months (x6) averaged 152.41ppkg / £1049.12.

Heifers under 48 months (x2) averaged 134.05ppkg / £823.73.

Otm Bulls (x2) averaged 121.50ppkg / £1125.08.

Overall average of 133.06ppkg – MORE CATTLE WANTED TO MEET DEMAND.

PRIME LAMBS (4827)

An entry of 4827 Prime Lambs sold to an average of 239.69ppkg.

Lights (624) to 233ppkg from B Jones, Spring Bank & RT & J Edwards, Llechwedd Ystrad. Others to 231ppkg from M J Launder, Gyfylchau. Average of 214.25ppkg.

Standards (1766) to 324ppkg from CJ & ME Williams, Minysarn. Others to 305ppkg from EH Pennie & Son, Gwern-yr-ychain. Average of 235.04ppkg.

Mediums (2271) to 324ppkg from M A Edwards, Sarnau Villa. Others to 310ppkg from CW Eynon, Blaen Dyffryn. Average of 247.78ppkg.

Heavies (116) to 272ppkg from AA Colucci, Great Cloddiau. Others to 268ppkg from JR, RM & JP Andrew, Bronheulog. Average of 248.36ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2757)

A good entry of culls sheep this week averaging £59.50 for ewes and £75.50 for rams. Ewes topped at £128 for 4 ewes from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. A Williams, 5 Lon Maldwyn, sold a cull ewe to £115. Rams topped at £115 from J G Ellis & Son, Tynewydd. S Beamond, Dolhafren, also sold a ram for £115.

COUPLES

The last catalogued sale of couples proved we are nearing the end of the season. The catalogued drew an entry of 303 couples which include 242 hoggs with lambs at foot and the rest being older ewes. Hoggs topped at £199 for 6 texel hoggs with single lambs from F Bailey, Pensarn. Also from the same home were further runs of texel hoggs with single lambs making £190 and £188. 6 Doset hoggs with single lambs from the same homemade £178. TM Davies, Wynnstay Farm, presented a pen of 4 texel hoggs with single lambs making £190. J V Davies, Garth Fawr, sold runs of 10 mule hoggs with single lambs topping at £186, others to £170, £162 and £160. Older ewes topped at £139 for 6 Suffolk / Beulah 2 and 3 year old with 10 lambs from WEG Evans, Llwynycrwth.

COWS & CALVES

An entry of 46 cows and calves and 3 breeding bulls met with a solid trade but slightly steadier than the previous few weeks. An entry of 6 Limousin x 1st calvers with Limousin calves at foot from DP & RE Evans, Moelygarth, sold to a top of £2300 with others at £2240 (2) to average £2120.

RE & CJ Davies, Boycot Hall, sold a Limousin x 1st calver with a bull calf for £2030 and a Limousin x 1st calver with a heifer calf for £1850.

I P Jones, Ddol Fawr, sold 8 1st calvers with Limosuin calves at foot to a top of £2010 (2) with others at £1920 & £1880. Three British Blue x 1st calvers with Limosuin x calves at foot sold for £1820, £1800 and £1750 presented by TS Morgan, Glanhafon Fach. P R Dawes, Kipperknowle Farm, Dinmore, sold some Salers an Simmental 2011 born cows with British Blue x and Limousin x steers at foot to a top of £2080 with others at £1950, £1900, £1880 (2) and £1820. Also from Kipperknowle was a 2015 born Pedigree White Short horn bull which made £1500. A breakdown of all prices achieved were as follows: £2200 + 3 lots, £2000 - £2200 6 lots, £1800 - £2000 16 lots, £1600 - £1800 6 lots, £1400 - £1600 12 lots, £1200 - £1400 3 lots, <£1200 3 lots.
