Welshpool Livestock Sales report on Sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (34)

a good show of otm cows this week topping at £1013.94 for a 786kg Limousin from DLG Price & Co, Bryncoch. G A Thomas, Penllain, presented a 710kg Charolais otm making £958.50. younger cows topped at £2002.50 for a 890kg for a British blue from G E Davies & sons, Cwmbromley. Also from the same home was a british blue weighing 715kg making £1615.90. heifers under 48 months topped at £1299.60 for a 760kg Limousin from H & S Watkins, Cammen Uchaf.

Averages of the day were as follows:

OTM Cows (x17) 118.17ppkg / £768.53.

Cows 48-72 months (x6) 172.19ppkg / £1185.07.

Heifers Under 48 months (x11) 158.31ppkg / £973.90.

Overall Average 140.80ppkg.

Two prime cattle forward from JM & SM Rowlands. Dolwen, topped at 257ppkg.

An entry of 3538 prime hogget’s sold to an overall average of 236.22ppkg.

Standards (314) to 255ppkg & 247ppkg from PM & D Mills, Rose Farm . Others to 247ppkg from GJ & DM Breeze, Red House. Average of 209.64ppkg.

An entry of 328 spring lambs sold to an overall average of 302.97ppkg.

Standards (114) to 323ppkg form B H Evans & Son, Rowton Grange. Others to 322ppkg from P & CE Davies, The crest. Average of 307.71ppkg.

Mediums (149) to 373ppkg from I P Jones, Bryn Clochydd. Others to 357ppkg from L Harding, Swn-y-Gwynt. Average of 299.10ppkg.

Heavies (11) to 293ppkg from DR & SE Hamer, Bronhaul. Others to 287ppkg from Delves & Co. Average of 279.13ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2694)

A larger entry of 2694 cull this week saw averages of £56.42 for ewes which topped at £146 from G & M & A Jones, Cefndre. Next at £133 was Tynybryn Farms. And a pen of 5 ewes from E L Evans & Co, Green Farm, sold for £128. Rams averaged £80 topping at £158 from CV & EM Lewis, Buttington New Hall.

CADE LAMBS

an entry of 92 cade lambs topped at £26 and averaged £10.91.

COUPLES

the improved weather brought with it an increased entry of 400 ewes with lambs at foot which sold to an overall faster trade with the best peaking at £26 for 6 suffolk x full mouth ewes with 12 lambs from M J Williams, Pontyperson. With other entries for the same home hitting £173 for a single full mouth suffolk with a single lamb.

DE & KD Langford, Brunant, sold welsh mule yearlings with twins for £202 and welsh mule yearlings with singles for £178. E Mills & Son, sold suffolk x 3 year olds with twins for £190 and B Jones, Spring Bank, hit £185 for a Texel x yearling with twins. GE & KM Langford, Y Maesydd, sold 10 texel x yearlings with 14 lambs for £155.

the entry included a large number of hardy bred ewes with as found welsh with single lambs peaking at £93 from A Evans, Brynperfraith, and as found hardy speckles with singles selling to £178 from GBT & PER Evans, Stonehouse Cottage.
