Welshpool Livestock Sales held a busy sale at Buttington Cross on Monday.

OTMS (51)

A larger number of OTM cattle on offer this week, seeing a top price of £1465.96 (134ppkg) for a Charolais x OTM weighing in at 1094kg from Roberts & Jones, Parc. Roberts & Jones also reached 144ppkg for a Charolais x weighing 938kg making £1350.72. Younger cows (48-72 months) topped a £925.60 (130ppkg) for a Aberdeen Angus x weighing 712kg from T E Lewis & Son, Abergwenlas. Heifers under 48 months topped at £1016 (160ppkg) for a Limousin x heifer weighing 635kg from M R Williams, Wern Holding. The same home also reached 158ppkg for a 635kg Limousin x heifer under 48 months making £1003.30.

Averages of the day were as follows:

OTM Cows (32) 89.27ppkg / £598.48.

OTM Bull (1) 113ppkg / £1073.50.

Cows 48-72 Months (11) 109.35ppkg / £731.63.

Heifers Under 48 months (6) 124.01ppkg / £805.62.

Bull Under 72 Months (1) 111ppkg / £1087.80.

Overall Average 98.71ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS (4579)

A larger number of lambs forward sold to an average of 171.14ppkg with a top price of 207ppkg for 40.5kg lambs making £83.80. Overall trade would be slightly dearer than last week especially for the better quality, better shaped lambs. Well meated lambs of any weight were again in good demand with leaner types again being more difficult to sell and potentially being more valueable sold as sort lambs.

Lights (575) to 184ppkg from D M Rowlands, Tyddyndu. Others to 178ppkg from G P & D Jones, Clawdd Coch. Average of 150.55ppkg.

Standards (1034) to 189ppkg from G O Jones & J A Lewis, Wern Farm. Others to 187ppkg also from the same home. Average of 168.11ppkg.

Mediums (1760) to 207ppkg from T G & E A Jones, Blaenwaen Ganol. Others to 205ppkg from B E & B E Langford, Llettymeibion. Average of 177.5ppkg.

Heavies (893) to 190ppkg from T E & T R Jerman, Cloddia Farm. Others to 186ppkg from D M & D I Jerman, Moelywigoedd. Average of 167.76ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2713)

An entry of 2645 cull ewes were present this week and achieved an average of £35.82. This was down £5 on the week but yet again a large proportion of the entry were small plainer ewes and were harder sold. Top price of the day was for a pen of strong pure Texel ewes from J S & A Howells, Shadog that sold for £104. Closely following at £97.50 were a pen of Texel x ewes from D R Owen & Sons, Sandilands.

Rams sold well and achieved an average of £72.05 and topped at £150 for a ram from M S & L J Willaims, Lower Gweneirin.

BREEDING EWES

A smaller number of entries this week seeing 438 breeding ewes and breeding ewe lambs entered with breeding lambs dominated.

Trade peaked at £79 for ewe lambs from A M Jones, Middle Farm with others reaching £71 from W R L Price, Pencwm.

Yearling ewes saw a maximum price of £60 from W D Lewis, Gilfach.

Three year old ewes peaked at £52 with others to £40 from C & R Edwards, Cringoed Farm.

STORE LAMBS

Another increased entry of over 1600 store lambs again selling to a very good trade with all on offer being keenly contested.

Theave lambs took top slot with 20 Charollais x selling to £73.50 from E J & A J Roberts, Longlands, with other strong sorts trading from £56 to £64.50.

Mixed and clean lambs peaked at £72 for Dorest x from A Beckett, 12 Dolgach with a large number of others trading over the £60 bracket.

Wether lambs sold well, with top price coming from C M A Botwood, Gwrid at £64 for 47 Mules.

Tup lambs peaked at £67.50 for 20 Mules from R W Morgan, Caetwpa again with large numbers trading over £60.

Averages:

Ewe Lambs - £49.37

Mixed & Clean - £52.50

Wether lambs - £50.44

Ram lambs - £44.68

Overall average - £49.11
