Welshpool Livestock Sales report on their sale at Buttington Cross on Monday.
OTMS (28)
A smaller number of OTM cattle on offer this week, seeing a top price of £948 (120ppkg) for a Simmental x OTM weighing in at 790kg from ECP Jones, Manor Farm. Younger cows (48-72 months) topped at £692.64 (104ppkg) for a Charolais x weighing 666kg from WC Jones, Tymawr. Heifers under 48 months topped at £967.40 (140ppkg) for a Stabiliser x heifer weighing 691kg from TG Evans & Co, Bettws Hall. A Charolais under 72 month bull weighing 548kg from DW Evans & Sons reached £712.40 (130ppkg).
OTM Cows (18) 89.06ppkg / £576.43.
Cows 48-72 Months (1) 104ppkg / £692.64.
Heifers Under 48 months (6) 123.05ppkg / £800.02.
Bull Under 72 months (3) 130ppkg / £593.67.
Overall Average 100.36ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS (4247)
Similar number of lambs forward sold to an average of 174.38ppkg with a top price of 202ppkg for 46kg lambs making £93 and 43kg lambs making £87. Trade would be very similar to last week with a slightly strong demand for export weight lambs and better shaped, better meated lambs. Also in good demand were smaller further finishing lambs/leaner lambs with plenty of buyers looking for these types. Light weight (27kg to 32kg) hill bred lambs also found a slightly stronger demand selling to average 160ppkg.
Lights (487) to 185ppkg from DLG Price & Co, Bryncoch. Others to 182ppkg from the same home. Average of 162.97ppkg.
Standards (864) to 196ppkg from JHH Jerman & Co, Wernddu. Others to 191ppkg from E Jones Cefn Coch Isaf and JE Roberts Watkins, Creigfryn. Average of 173.45ppkg.
Mediums (1557) to 202ppkg from CW Smith & Co, Uwchyllan. Others to 201ppkg from CL & C Watkins, Bank Farm. Average of 177.30ppkg.
Heavies (984) to 202ppkg from CW Smith & Co, Uwchyllan. Others to 191ppkg from CL & C Watkins, Bank Farm. Average of 166.24ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1553)
A reduced entry of 1495 ewes achieved an average of £44, this was up £5 on last week. Ewes were sharper across the board. Bigger well fleshed ewes were very much in demand. Ewes peaked at £112, presented by P & CE Davies, The Crest, as usual presenting very well finished ewes. CD Jones, Bedol presented a pen of well fleshed Texel type ewes peaking at £100. Overall all types of ewes were in slightly more demand. Mules achieved up to £75.
Cull rams peaked at £128 from AG Williams & Son, Plassau Farm. Overall trade sharper throughout and easier sold.

STORE LAMBS (1073)
A slightly reduced entry of just under 1100 Store lambs which included a large number of hill bred types. Nevertheless, the lambs on offer sold to a good trade with a few new buyers up and down the lines.
Tup lambs were in the highest demand with prices reaching £70 from JT Owen & Co, Frochas Farm with others to £67 from PA Andrew, Llanoddian Ganol. Large numbers of farming tups sold from £58.50 to £66.
A large entry of mixed and clean lambs peaked at £72 from E Gethin & Co, Ty Coch with other to £67 from DS Griffiths & Co, Braich Y Fedw again the majority of farming sorts sold from £56.50 to £65.
Theave lambs peaked at £66 from B Llewellyn, Great Brithdir with others to £65.50 from T H Turner & Co, Red House, again the large numbers traded between £55 and £60.
Wether lambs peaked at £64 from RE Astley, Rhosgommorog with others to £61.50 from R & A Davies, Bronyvastre.
