OTMS (15)
A similar number of OTM cattle on offer this week, seeing a top price of £734.50 (113ppkg) for a British Blue x OTM weighing in at 650kg from J Tomlinson, Cornorion Fawr. B & C Fairclough & Co, Cwmyrhiwdre made 110ppkg for a Stabiliser x weighing 667kg making £733.70. Younger cows (48-72 months) topped at £981.19 (131ppkg) for a Limousin x weighing 749kg from VE Lewis & Son, The Garn. Heifers under 48 months topped at £876.12 (149ppkg) for a British Blue x heifer weighing 588kg from B & C Fairclough & Co, Cwmyrhiwdre. DE Wozencraft, Mynydd-Llys made 154ppkg for a Charolais x weighing 495kg making £762.30. A bull under 72 months weighing 485kg from DE Wozencraft, Mynydd-Llys reached £703.25 (145ppkg).

PRIME LAMBS (5550)
A similar number of lambs forward sold to an average of 179.35ppkg, with a top price of 210ppkg for pen of lambs weighing 41kg lambs making £86, and £95/head for 52kg lambs from TK Robinson, Tynewydd (4 times) and R J Kinsey & Son, Red House with 56.5kg lambs.
Overall trade would be slightly back on last week with prices being similar to other auction market returns from last Thursday/Friday, as trade reduced slightly through the week. Yet again better quality better meated lambs were in strong demand with plenty of pens selling to 200ppkg or above. Export weight lambs were also in keen demand as were lighter weight 32-38kg lambs, with yet again the better bred types being sold for further finishing. Most improved trade on the day was for the lighter weight ethnic type lambs (below 32kg) which averaged 172.21ppkg and would be nearly 10ppkg up on last week. This was due to the current demand for this type of lamb from Southern Europe, especially Portugal.

Standards (1421) to 205ppkg from ED Ellis, Penisarcwm. Others to 201ppkg from Probert & Probert, Lower Hill and TG Davies, Home Farm. Average of 177.45ppkg.
Mediums (2220) to 210ppkg from TG Davies, Home Farm. Others to 205ppkg from DJ Lloyd & Co, Cefnbarrach. Average of 181.67ppkg.
Heavies (1006) to 202ppkg from JES Corfield, Woodgate Farm. Others to 200ppkg from TH Vaughan & Son, Maesmochnant Uchaf. Average of 171.71ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (3327)
An entry of 3254 cull ewes achieved an average of £43.67. This was a very similar trade to the previous week. Ewes peaked at £124.50 presented by A M Jones, Middle Farm. E L Evans & Co, The Green presented a pen of excellent Texel ewes making £124. Well fleshed continential ewes sold a premium, and were very much in demand.
63 Cull rams achived an average of £51.24 and peaked at £116 for T & A & R Tudor, Llysun.

STORE LAMBS (1090)
There was a total of 1090 Store lambs sold at today’s sale with the Texel crosses dominating.
The sale topped at a strong price of £86 for a tup lamb from T & B Williams, Cilmawr, with other tup lambs reaching £84 from MH Pugh, Gilfach for a pen of 7.
Mixed and clean lambs peaked at £78.50 from DW & LE Morgan, Lower House, with others to £69.50 from DW Davies, Penybank for a pen of 12 Texel x.
With over 300 theave lambs at the sale, the top price peaked £72 from MH Pugh, Gilfach for a pen of 16 Texel x. Others reached £71 and £69 from DB & EFJ Gethin, Dolyrheol and EL Andrew, Trewern Cottage.
Wether lambs peaked at £67.50 from M & T Jones, Geseilfa Uchaf, with others to £64.50 from OME Thomas & Co, Hafod Fraith.
Store lambs continue to sell incredibly well with numerous runs selling between £60 - £70 with feeding men constantly looking.

FODDER
An excellent and varied entry of straw and fodder attracted a very large crowd on propective buyers and interested onlookers. Trade was mixed with a variable demand depending on the quality and location of the lots on offer.
