PRIME LAMBS (4564)

A pleasing entry of lambs forward sold to an average of 195.12ppkg, with a top price of 250ppkg for pen of lambs weighing 43kg lambs making £107.50 from EL Evans, Derlwyn, and £115.50/head for 69.5kg lambs from I Hughes, Waen Farm.

A good number of lambs forward following the increase in price between Christmas and New Year sold to a strong demand throughout, especially for the better quality, better grading lambs of any weight. In most demand were the export weight lambs (39-45kg) with the heavier weight lambs also showing a much improved trade with plenty of pens selling to above £100 per head. Lighter weight lambs continue to find a strong demand especially the better meated types. Very few ethnic (28-32kg) lambs on offer which resulted in prices being very similar to before Christmas. Hopefully into the New Year trade for all types of lambs will remain strong.
