PRIME HOGGETS (3873)

A reduced seasonal entry of hoggets forward sold to a very strong trade to return an average of 202.32ppkg, with a top price of 237ppkg for pen of lambs weighing 43kg hoggets making £102 from SH Lloyd & Sons, Penllan, and £111/head for 51kg hoggets from EL Evans & Co, Green Farm.

Trade for all weights and grades of lambs was very strong with demand greatly exceeding supply. Better quality hoggets again sold to a very strong trade with plenty of hoggs selling to 220ppkg and above, especially export weight hoggs (39-44kg). Heavy weight hoggets also found keen bidding with yet again plenty of hoggs selling above £100 per head. Middle and lighter weight hoggs also sold to a improved trade due to less of these types being forward. Still a small number of better bred lighter weight hoggets going back on farm for further finishing. Undoubtedly todays liveweight market prices are far better than the current deadweight price, which will now increase as a result of the improved trade created in the livestock markets. Sell live and thrive.
