Again a larger number of lambs forward sold to a very similar trade to last week to record an average of close to 252ppkg. This would compare very favourably to other national and local livestock market prices. Well fleshed lambs were in most demand with competitve bidding on all weights. Particularly well sold on the day were the 34-42kg lambs, with also a strong demand for the smaller 28-30kg lambs as long as they were well meated. Again heavy weight lambs were more difficult to sell, so vendors are encouraged to draw their lambs regularly.

A slightly smaller entry of more mixed quality hoggs sold to a two tier trade with a very strong demand for the best quality, well fleshed hoggs of any weight. These types found a excellent trade throughout the sale. However, quite a few poor quality “end of season” hoggs were forward which found a slower trade. Lighter weight hoggs continue to sell to a strong demand but with more smaller spring lambs forward, trade for these types was slightly less.
