PRIME LAMBS (3290)

A similar entry of lambs forward sold to return an average of 168.56ppkg, with a top price of 205ppkg for pen of lambs weighing 32kg making £65.50 from SM Bebb, Ffridd Cowny, and £95/head for 60kg lambs from JL & JER Davies, Ffinnant.

A similar number of lambs forward for the Bank Holiday Monday sale sold to a slower trade throughout which was most probably due to the Bank Holiday and the current spell of warm weather. Better meated, better quality lambs again sold to the most competitive demand with these types selling generally close to 200ppkg. Heavier weight lambs also sold to a decent demand as did the better quality, better bred lighter weight lambs. Poorer bred lambs , of any weight, found the least demand. Lighter weight lambs also attracted some interest from store lamb buyers. Hopefully, going forward, trade will improve for all weights and grades.
