Business challenge to students

21/11/2019 @ 10:20

Local students are being challenged to think about what business they would set up as part of a competition.

Positive Pathways Powys, the group which organises the Powys Careers Festival, want learners across the area to take part in their business competition.

Aimed at students aged 14-19, the competition’s challenge is ‘What business would you set up in Powys in 2020 and why?’.

The winning entrants will win vouchers worth £200, kindly donated by Weales Wheels of Llanddewi and What About Me? Training Ltd.

Jackie Parker, Chair of the Positive Pathways Powys Group, said: “The competition is open to 14-19-year olds in secondary and special schools as well as students of the NPTC Group of Colleges and other learners.

“As well as the vouchers, the winning entry will receive a trophy and certificate and the opportunity to make their presentation to Powys County Council’s Management Team. So why not have a go? It’ll be fun and the work can count towards your Welsh Baccalaureate.”

Entries must be in a presentation format (maximum 10 minutes) and address the following:

·      Who would your customers be?

·      How would you promote your business?

·      If you needed any staff, how would you recruit them?

·      What would be the main challenges for your business?

·      How would you overcome these?

A shortlist of three entries will then be chosen by the Positive Pathways Powys team. The entries will be invited to attend a final judge at County Hall in Llandrindod Wells during the week of February 10, 2020.

The shortlisted teams will be asked to present to the judging panel and then answer questions on its contents for a maximum of 20 minutes. The top three presentations will be announced at the 2019 Powys Careers Festival on March 4, 2020.

Entries can be in any recorded format (audio/video/multimedia/PowerPoint presentation/Prezi) but will need to be emailed to jayne.bevan@powys.gov.uk to arrive no later than 5pm on January 31, 2020.

You don’t have to do it on your own as each entry can have a maximum of five learners within the ‘team’.
