The final sale of the decade produced some lively business in Welshpool on Monday
BARREN & CULL COWS (14)
Select number of OTM cattle on offer this week, seeing a top price of £1030.75 (133ppkg) for a Limousin x OTM weighing in at 775kg from JW Hopkins, Bank Farm, from the same home a Limousin x weighed 749kg and sold for £936.25 (125ppkg). Younger cows (48-72 months) topped at £1049.60 (128ppkg) for a Hereford x weighing 820kg from NA Derwas, Plas Trehelig. WJ Barnett and Son, Rhuvid made 134ppkg for a Charolais x weighing 700kg making £938. Heifers under 48 months topped at £961.39 (127ppkg) for a heifer weighing 757kg from I Francis, Bryndu.

A similar entry of lambs forward sold to return an average of 206.76ppkg. Top price of 231ppkg for pen of lambs weighing 35kg making £81 from Bowen and Bowen, Penthryn and £112/head for 48kg lambs from the same home.
Firm entry of prime lambs forward and some excellent runs of quality lambs selling to an exceptional trade throughout. Numerous weighted sheep selling well over the £100 barrier.
All sorts were in keen demand with the lightweight hill sheep selling around the £2 kilo mark all day, and the lighter continental types selling around the 210/215p mark with many going for further feeding.

Mediums (2819) to 225ppkg from GL Jones, Cefnrhosan. Others to 224ppkg from RE and EA Jones and Son, Cletterwood. Average of 207.95ppkg.
Heavies (1139) to 217ppkg from J and J Beavan and Sons, Winsbury and from DR Owen and Sons, Sandilands respectively. Average of 199.11ppkg.
Over weights (98) to 208ppkg from EL Evans and Co, Green Farm. Others to 192ppkg from M Gethin, 3 Glyn Terrace. Average of 184.69ppkg.
CULL EWES (1603)
What a trade! This week we saw an increased entry of 1603 Cull Ewes that met an absolutely terrific trade! 15 individual buyers present once again this week and an overall average of £76.57 being achieved. Over 300 ewes sold for over £100! Any amount of Texel x and Suffolk x ewes £110+. Top price of the day of £155 went to Evan Davies & Co, Red House, Caersws closely followed by C Dean, Manor Farm that sold ewes at £151. A terrific run of 69 crossbred ewes were shown by GR Moseley, Dairy Barn and averaged a fantastic £120.32!
68 Cull Rams also met a strong trade averaging £76.74 and reaching £110 twice, firstly by JD & Y Roberts & Son, Maes Nant and secondly by AG & G Rowlands, Tynpant, Bala.
