PRIME HOGGETS (2634)

An smaller entry of hoggs forward sold to return an average of 219.01ppkg, with a top price of 282ppkg for pen of hoggs weighing 30kg making £84.50 from DE Morgan & Co, Cefntwlch, and £116.80/head for 73kg hoggs from GE & RM Morris, The Belan.

Again a small number of Prime Hoggets on offer and this resulted in a strong competitive trade throughout for all weights and grades. Best quality, better shaped Hoggets continue  to find tremendous demand with plenty of good quality pens selling at 230pkg and above. Heavy weight Hoggets , especially the better quality types, sold very strongly as did the supermarket and export weight Hoggets. Best sold on the day would have been the lighter weight Hoggs with plenty of better quality types again being purchased to go back on farm for further finishing. Hill bred types also found good competition with plenty of these types selling above 200ppkg. Overall, a very good trade especially considering quite a number of Vendors were bringing in their last lambs and therefore overall the quality  was poorer than in recent weeks. Hopefully should remain strong going into the spring and the influx of the larger numbers of fed Hoggets.

PLEASE PRESENT YOUR HOGGETS AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE AND BELLY CLIPPING IS RECOMMENDED.
