Pupil Coach

Bettws Lifehouse is looking a vibrant, active and hugely cheerful person to join their growing team at the Upper School Site in Welshpool. We are a Special Needs School with an outstanding reputation for positive, long term outcomes for our pupils.  We take our child centred approach as being fundamental in our pedagogy, and that our work with families enhances and improves all that we do.

Job Title: Pupil Coach: Therapeutic Support with some teaching responsibility

The Senior Leadership Team are looking for a person to fill this FULL TIME post, ideally from Nov 2nd 2020. 

Central to your role will be the ability to engage and manage pupils aged 14-19 with a range of significant and complex emotional and behavioural challenges.

·         You will be enthusiastic, energetic and fun-loving – the pupils will WANT to spend time with you!

·         You will find ways to communicate effectively with pupils and to help pupils overcome their communication difficulties.

·         You will be interested and able to discover what makes an individual pupil tick, motivates and engages them.

·         You will have had experience in helping young people to develop self-awareness and strategies to overcome their personal challenges.

·         Your efforts will help pupils to gain confidence and independence and to develop existing and new interests and skills.

·         You will work with pupils on the school site and out in the community.

·         You will work in partnership with all staff, as part of a very strong, highly dedicated team committed to the best outcomes for every individual child.

·         You will be able to plan and deliver activities that engage, inspire and motivate.

·         You will be part of the Pathway for Adulthood Team, helping pupils to:

·         understand and experience the world of work and employment, 

·         develop independence and new life skills, 

·         make and maintain positive friendships and relationships with others

·         develop & maintain healthy mental and physical wellbeing 

·         meet their personal identified outcomes

The following will be a distinct advantage:

·         An excellent knowledge and experience of the autistic spectrum, ADHD, childhood trauma and mental health conditions

·         Experience of how children and teenagers can be affected by a range of developmental and mental health conditions, the challenges they may experience and how they can be supported to develop strategies to overcome these challenges and to grow into happy and fulfilled young adults

·         An excellent record of behaviour management with challenging young people

·         Experience in preparing young people for adulthood

·         Sporting interest and enthusiasm  

·         Excellent awareness of ICT and technology that is relevant, used by and of interest to young people

·         The ability to plan and take responsibility for a qualification or oversee subject progression with appropriate senior support.


We will be looking for someone who is able to show a dedication to the type of work involved, a serious commitment to CPD and learning for self-improvement, and a range of skills that enhances our existing suite.

Pay Scale is between £19,000 to £32,800 dependent on experience
