New ‘Covid’ award for Powys businesses

30/10/2020 @ 11:46

There will be a new award created to recognise the exceptional community response by local businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The idea was floated by Trewern County Councillor, Amanda Jenner (pictured), after she was impressed by the “incredible actions by local businesses who have done great things for their communities or taken considerable efforts to become more environmentally sustainable”.

She put the suggestion to Cllr James Evans, the person responsible for the council’s involvement in the annual Powys Business Awards which are organised by the Mid Wales Manufacturing Group.

“I have raised the issue with Ceri Stephens at the Mid Wales Manufacturing Group and we have agreed to include a special recognition award in this year’s awards,” he said. “I have asked officers to work with Ceri to set the criteria for this.”

Cllr Jenner told us: “Many businesses here have worked so hard to support their communities this year in how they’ve responded to Covid-19.

“We’ve seen donations, diversification, local deliveries set up, thorough safety procedures introduced and much more.

“These businesses are the heart of towns and they deserve to be publicly commended for all they have done in such a challenging period. I am so pleased my suggestion to introduce a new award to recognise this has been taken up.”
