Welshpool's town centre has received a timely boost after WHSmith confirmed that it will not only be staying local, but making improvements to its store.
The high street giants revealed to mywelshpool that talk of them closing is wrong with a new phase of work expected before the year's end.
The rumour mill went into overdrive last week after word spread about WH Smith closing or moving over to the new Tesco development, but locals’ minds have been put at ease this week.
A WH Smith spokesperson said: "I can confirm that WHSmith have no plans to close our Welshpool store. We are always looking for ways to improve our customers’ shopping experience and as such we are likely to carry out some improvements to the Welshpool store later this year.”
The news will be welcomed by Welshpool shoppers who have been struck by a number of shops and businesses closing their doors this year.
