Work shadowing opp for youngsters

02/03/2012 @ 01:25

Welshpool youngsters have the opportunity to gain an insight into professional theatre production through a new initiative launched by Powys County Council's arts service.

Mentoring and work shadowing opportunities are now available for 16-25 year olds with successful applicants following professionals when they are preparing for plays that will tour schools in Powys. There will be opportunities in acting, directing, stage management, music composition, sound and lighting, costume, set design, publicity and marketing, or film and video.

Cllr Wynne Jones, Powys County Council's Cabinet Member for arts, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for young people and we anticipate a lot of interest. You don't need any prior experience to apply, just an enthusiasm for learning more about theatre production."

"Although the first placements will be based at the drama centre in Llandrindod Wells, we have secured a training grant from the Arts Council of Wales to offer theatre training opportunities countywide over the coming months. Local workshops will be organised in other areas and travel expenses can be provided."

Places are limited so applications should be made early. To find out more email arts@powys.gov.uk.
