14/03/2012 @ 10:57

The company tasked with building 45 houses on a Red Bank field as part of a £5.6m project have promised that 80% of the workforce will be local.

Mid Wales Housing Association has launched the new development and has contracted S.J. Roberts Construction Ltd to carry out the work.

And this morning, a statement from the Association read: “The contractor for the development, S.J. Roberts Construction Ltd. has agreed to support local employment by ensuring 80% of the labour force will be local. Hughes Architects, Newtown, have worked on the design of the homes.”

The provision of affordable housing in Welshpool is a priority for Powys County Council and this is a major factor in the allocation of £1.7m of Social Housing Grant money from the Welsh Government yo ensure that rents on the 22 ‘affordable’ properties are kept below market prices.

The land for the development has been purchased from Welshpool Town Council Burgesses’ Land Trust and will comprise of two, three and four bedroomed houses; two and three bedroomed bungalows and two bedroom flats.
