Bring your brain to breakfast

16/04/2012 @ 04:16

A free Mid Wales breakfast meeting will explain the benefits of coaching in the workplace.

The ‘Bring Your Brain to Breakfast’ event will demonstrate the benefits of coaching, particularly when applied to leadership and management development.

Organised by Leadership & Management Wales (LMW), the business event takes place at the Elephant and Castle Hotel, Newtown, on Wednesday.

It runs from 8am-10am and will include group discussion, networking and a light breakfast. Places are free, but must be booked in advance at http://lmw.org.uk/en/events or 029 2087 5062.

The event follows the publication of LMW research, The Impact of Leadership and Management Development on Organisations, which highlighted the importance of workplace coaching alongside class-based learning.

Jo Lord, an experienced workplace coach from Learn to Inspire, will explain coaching and co-ordinate group discussion and exercises. Steffan Jenkins, director of Gwersyll yr Urdd Llangrannog, will explain how leadership and management has helped his organisation.

LMW director, Dr Barrie Kennard, will provide a brief explanation of the research findings.

“We found that organisations in Wales felt that leadership and management development was more effective when classroom learning was coupled with workplace coaching,” explained Dr Kennard.

“This reflects my own experience, which suggests that workplace coaching adds so much value we can rewrite a basic rule of maths – because here one plus one equals at least three!”

Leadership & Management Wales is the centre for excellence for leadership and management skills in Wales, funded by the Welsh Government and European Social Fund, to benefit businesses of all sizes and sectors across Wales.

It is run by a consortium, led by Cardiff Business School, and including Aberystwyth University, Glyndwr University and Tattum Guest Associates Ltd.
