Meet public sector buyers event

20/08/2012 @ 10:35

Businesses in the Welshpool area have the chance to discuss current and upcoming public sector contracts with a range of organisations as part of a Meet the Buyer event at the Royal Welsh Showground, Llanelwedd next month.

The focus of the Powys Meet the Buyer event will be primarily on civil engineering, construction and landscape management contracts, although other opportunities will also be highlighted.

It will give local businesses involved in these sectors the chance to see what contracts are currently available or on the horizon and to discuss requirements with representatives from a range of public sector organisations.

Attending the event on Thursday, September 13 is Morgan Sindall, a leading construction company seeking supply chain partners to work on major projects, including Network Rail. They are specifically seeking companies who can undertake drainage and small civil engineering works.

“This is a great opportunity for local businesses to meet and discuss impending and live contracts with the public sector and to have a better understanding of what they need to do to have a chance of successfully competing for such work,” said Guto Carrod, Supplier Development Champion with the Supplier Development Service at Menter a Busnes.

“There is a particular focus on projects ranging from highways construction to grass cutting and any businesses involved in construction, civil engineering or landscape management would be worth registering to attend.”

Other organisations attending include Powys County Council which is seeking contractors for small-scale highways construction works, sewage and sewage systems (statutory testing), grass cutting, heating servicing; plant, tools and equipment hire, vehicle tracking and telematics and other specific projects.

Dyfed Powys Police is seeking contractors to provide security, cleaning and catering services, while Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is seeking training companies. Other organisations attending include National Library of Wales, Ministry of Defence and Carmarthenshire County Council.

Meet the Buyer events are part of the Welsh Government’s Supplier Development Service, managed and delivered in Powys and Ceredigion by business development company Menter a Busnes.

They provide opportunities for businesses to gain an understanding of public sector procurement and tendering processes.

Companies must register in advance to attend the event. To register, email networkingevents@ontracagency.co.uk or telephone 01686 620409 by September 3.
