Welshpool’s discerning music public will be treated to something special on Thursday when a world-renowned duo plays a one-off concert in the town.

Paloma Trigas and Melissa Morris (right) will bring their blend of Violin and Piano music for the first time when they perform a classical recital for the Welshpool Music Society at Welshpool Methodist Church. The concert is open to all and starts at 7:30pm with tickets priced £7 on the door.

Their programme is expected to include Mozart, Beethoven and Elgar.

Paloma (Violin) and Melissa (Piano) have impressed audiences across the world and despite being relatively young by classical music standards, they have both gathered a growing band of admirers.

Paloma (BMus Hons MMus GSMD) took up a full scholarship at Birmingham Conservatoire where she graduated in 2005 and was then awarded a scholarship to complete a Masters degree at Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she studied with Jacqueline Ross.

As well as her classical commitments Paloma joined the Carlos Nunez Band in 2000 with whom she has toured extensively from Morocco to Japan, performing alongside many distinguished artists including The Chieftains, Sharon Shannon and the Kodo Drummers. She has played in festivals such as Le Nuit Celtique (80,000 people) and also recorded a live DVD and CD in front of 30,000 people, which received the Spanish music award for best Folk Album 2005. Paloma’s recording credits also include work with The Rolling Stones and The Chieftains as well as playing on the Mar Adentro and Gedo Senki film soundtracks.

Melissa Morris (MMus BMus Hons LRSM) graduated with a 1st class honours degree in 2005 and received Distinction LRSM for piano performance the same year. In 2006 she was awarded the Weingarten Scholarship and spent a year studying at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. In 2008 she completed her Masters at Birmingham Conservatoire studying with Philip Martin and Victor Sangiorgio.

Melissa has collaborated on many contemporary projects most recently performing the premier of an interactive work for piano and improvised computer by Alexander J. Harker at the CBSO centre with the Birmingham Electro Acoustic Sound Theatre.
