Canal Exhibition at Powysland

03/10/2017 @ 10:01

Stunning photos of the Montgomery Canal will be on display at Welshpool’s Powysland Museum throughout October, as part of a special exhibition organised by the Canal & River Trust charity.

The Trust, which cares for 2,000 miles of canals, has collected together a unique record of the beautiful rural waterway, as seen through the eyes of several generations of waterway-lovers.

The touring exhibition has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the Montgomery Canal restoration project.

Sylvia Edwards, Montgomery Canal community development officer with the Canal and River Trust, said: “This exhibition combines photographs discovered in a variety of archives and through a number of community workshops. Subjects range from the ‘Big Dig’ in Welshpool in 1969 to wildlife and boating.

“For many people, it will be a trip down memory lane and a reminder of enjoyable times and restoration achievements so far.”

The Montgomery Canal exhibition runs through to October 31 and opening times are 11am-1pm and 2-5pm (weekdays) and 11am-2pm (Saturday).
