A look into our past lives

10/04/2018 @ 09:28

Powysland Museum has launched its latest exhibition which will provide an insight into life in Britain from 1945 to 1999.

Running until May 29, this temporary exhibition will focus on various aspects of life in Britain illustrated with artefacts, photographs, leaflets, magazines and adverts from the period.

The exhibition does not propose to paint a comprehensive and exhausted picture of Britain during the last half of the 20th century, but rather uses the items collected by the museum from that period to jog the memories of those visitors who can remember this period and show those born after 1999 some aspects of their parents’ and grandparents’ lives.

“It is very much hoped that the displays will create some fun and interesting inter-generational talks and discussions,” said a Museum spokesperson.

The modern items are displayed in themed cases focusing on some important aspects of life during the last five and a half decades of the 20th century including: The end of World War 2, health and the NHS, communication, women’s role, the family, leisure and holidays, teenagers, entertainment, television, the 1953 Coronation and the Royal Family.

Opening hours: Weekdays, except Wednesday: 11am-1pm and 2-5pm; Saturday 11am-2pm
