Rock stars

Guilsfield has found a rock solid way of keeping the village youngsters entertained this summer, and it could turn into a year-round activity.

Following its success in communities across the country, the village caught the painted rock bug earlier this month and it has kept plenty of kids busy throughout the holidays.

The idea is to simply paint rocks and hide them around the village with finders encouraged to take pictures, post on the Facebook page, and then re-hide them.

It started with the odd colourful rock or two being found to literally dozens popping up all over the place.

“It’s a country wide activity and I heard it was really successful in Newtown so decided to start it in Guilsfield with a very heavily pregnant daughter and two grandsons,” said Carol Williams. “It was a great idea to start it in the village.

“It’s cheap and a great activity to get everyone out and about and making people smile. Every day, since we started, there have been people out and about hiding and moving rocks.”

Carol said that she hopes to continue the craze through Halloween, Remembrance Week (poppy stones) and into Christmas, and has hinted at a big community event next summer.
