Country stars to play in Welshpool

11/10/2018 @ 10:30

A new night of live music will be held at the Town Hall this Saturday night, with four rising stars from the country music scene heading to town.

Organised by Charman Promotions and Halo Music Management, ‘an Evening With…’ follows a successful debut show staged at Welshpool Town Hall in February.

The new show will feature country-pop band Holloway Road, supported by Gloucester-based Texan solo singer Stevie O’Connor, family trio Blue Genes and local duo Mount Pleasant.

Essex-based Holloway Road were named duo of the year in both the British Country Music Awards and the UK Country Radio awards.

They have appeared for three consecutive years at the UK’s biggest country festival, C2C at the O2 in London, and have supported top country band The Shires. They have also written and performed in Nashville, the home of country music.

Stevie O'Connor (pictured) hails from the South West and exploded onto the UK Country scene this year, playing a string of high profile festivals and earning a growing fan base. Stevie's style is embedded in Texas Country with a blues theme throughout his songs and the influences of Jinks, Hank Williams, Jennings and Willie Nelson.

Currently he is recording his debut album, and he has already secured award nominations and multiple dates around the UK supporting some of the best in Country music on tour.

Blue Genes are a family trio from Wrexham with a sound combining Tennessee and Celtic roots,

Their recent EP reached number one in the British iTunes country chart and they were nominated in the band of the year category in the UK Country Radio Awards.

Opening the show, Mount Pleasant comprises Matt Evans and John Smith, who met at Liverpool YMCA through youth work more than 20 years ago. John moved north to Newcastle and Matt to mid Wales and they meet up several times a year to play and perform. Both share the same passion for music and laughter that is expressed in their music.

‘An Evening With…’ takes place in Welshpool Town Hall on Saturday, doors opening at 6pm and the show starting at 7pm.

Tickets priced at £10, with accompanied children under 10 years old free, are available from Welshpool Tourist Information Centre, Riffells music shop in Welshpool or online from www.wegottickets.com/event/443690.
