Can you give a child a home?

Being part of a loving family is what most children take for granted. However, there are still children in our area who are looking for a home of their own.

As part of National Adoption Week running until October 21, people are being asked to consider opening their homes and their hearts to those waiting for a family.

Powys County Council’s Cabinet Member for Young People & Culture Cllr Rachel Powell said: “This week is a great opportunity to encourage Powys residents to consider if they could be the family that a child needs. Prospective adopters can find out more about the process of adopting children who are waiting for loving, permanent and stable homes.

“Children of all ages are in need of a loving home, from babies, toddlers, older children and sibling groups.”

Adoption Mid and West Wales has adoption teams covering Powys. Their aim is to make sure that children grow up as part of a permanent, loving family from childhood through to adulthood.

Powys County Council’s Children’s Services provide a range of services and resources to help families to care for their children but, where this is not possible, their Adoption Service finds permanent alternative families.

In the last year (2017-18) 29 adopters were approved across the region - these include married couples, unmarried couples, single people and same sex couples - but there is always the need for more adopters to come forward as demand for adoption placements has increased this year.
