New Festival of Music in 2019

20/12/2018 @ 10:36

Hot on the heels of the Welshpool Music Festival confirming that it will not be going ahead with its Pub Sessions in 2019, a new group has confirmed that the Welshpool Festival of Music will be held instead.

The annual music extravaganza has packed out Welshpool’s pubs for the past decade on the last bank Holiday Sunday in May. It has seen dozens of acts play quality live music for free across several venues in the town with a group of volunteers pulling the whole thing together.

But no sooner had it confirmed its demise on social media, another group had already decided to pick up the baton and organise their own event on May 26.

“A group of landlords and local promoters sat down and decided to ensure that the second May Bank Holiday Sunday would remain one of the most important days on the Welshpool cultural calendar,” said a statement from the new organisers.

“Since agreeing the formation of the Welshpool Festival, we have already confirmed the participation of six venues, and are hopeful of having at least 10 venues on board in the coming weeks.

“We have also received numerous offers of assistance from volunteers and a lot of enthusiasm from acts from the local area and as far afield as Liverpool and Bristol - and this is just in the first few days!

“We are committed to putting on the very best festival that we possibly can, with the best acts we can get, and providing a festival that the whole community can get involved in and be proud of.

“Anyone who would like to get involved in the festival, either as a volunteer or performer, please do get in touch.”

“There are sponsorship opportunities available for local companies or individuals who would like to show their support for the Festival, please contact us at welshpoolfestival@gmail.com if you would like more information.”

The statement went on to say that the first headliners would be announced in mid-January.
