Running up 1,000 mountains in a year!

28/01/2019 @ 09:42

It is not unusual for someone to join the Dolly Mixtures running club when they are visiting the area, but their most recent ‘guest’ is in the midst of a truly incredible challenge.

Tina Page emailed the all-female running group to ask if she could join them for their Thursday club meet, and the members soon realised they had someone special in their ranks.

Tina is currently travelling through Britain in order to run 1,000 mountains in a year, and made her way through Shropshire and into Wales to climb the smaller but very prominent hills known as Marilyns, of which there are about 20 within a 25-mile radius of Welshpool.

The week saw her run 30 of the 278 mountains in Wales, including Allt y Main, Moel y Golfa, Corndon Hill, Long Mountain, Caeliber Isaf and Heath Myndd.

She is continuing west and south to the Pumlumons, Llandrinod Wells, Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. Her time in Welshpool took her tally to 238 of the 1,000 target.

Tina is hoping to raise £50,000 for Mountain Rescue, Search and Rescue Dogs and Outdoor Conservation.

You can find out more about her challenge here.

The Dolly Mixtures meet every Monday and Thursday evening at the COWSHACC, Welshpool at 6pm.

They also meet every Monday at 6pm in Llandrinio, Gregynog, Bishop’s Castle and Shrewsbury.
