Will local youngsters go on strike?

13/03/2019 @ 09:40

Local students are being encouraged to go on strike this Friday and support a national protest against the lack of action being taken over the climate change crisis.

Student organisers of the Shrewsbury demonstration have reached out across the border to invite their Welsh counterparts to a show of force.

Newtown resident Jasmine Jones is a student at Shrewsbury 6th Form College and wants more young people to join here for the global day of action that is taking place in dozens of towns and cities. The events will highlight the urgency of the environmental situation.

The family-friendly demonstration is part of the ‘Youth Strike 4 Climate’ and will be held from 9am-2pm in the Quarry Park.

“Young people, their friends and families are encouraged to join the event and if they wish, bring along home-made banners and placards,” said Jasmine.

Further information about the event can be found on the Facebook page ‘Shrewsbury #YouthStrike4Climate Global Strike’.
