Llanfair Caereinion Carnival will be taking us all back to the 1980s this year when it is held on June 15.

The theme has been announced with organisers planning an exciting event with an open invite for the area to join in the fun.

Nikki Peate, Chair of the Carnival, said: “It is going to be really exciting this year as we go back to the decade of standout fashion, classic TV programmes, amazing films and some great pop music.

“It will be fascinating to see what ideas people use to decorate their floats. It is always difficult to judge as the standard is fantastic, but I think it will be harder this year.”

Potential Carnival Queens will soon be asked to put themselves forward with her attendants also to be selected soon.

A carnival tradition that started in the 1930s will continue with the Carnival Queen arriving in Llanfair Caereinion by carriage on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway.

The procession will then leave the station at 12.30pm and make its way through the streets of the town alongside wonderful fancy dress competitors. Both floats and fancy dress competitors will be judged and prizes awarded.

For fancy dress, the categories include: Under 4's, Under 7's, Under 11’s, Over 12’s, Adult and Best Dressed Pram. They will be judged at Llanfair Institute at 11:45am.

The Carnival Queen will officially open the event on Mount Field at 1.30pm. This year, the Carnival Field will welcome Tractor Ted, Soccerholics 'R' us, Balloon Sculpture and Magic, and in the Main Ring, the Mega Illusion Show, Cambrian Band, Powys Dance, Caereinion Kangaroos and Cheerleaders.

Refreshments will be provided by Kevin’s Burger Van, Banwy Café, and a special Gin and Prosecco Bar as well as others, plus exciting stalls.

Entry is £2.50 for adults and £1.50 for children. Under four years old enter free.
