Something to ‘Cheer’ about

07/11/2019 @ 09:55

The Welshpool area has its very own cheerleading group which has recently celebrated its first anniversary.

Cosmic Cheer has been keeping youngsters fit and introducing a new activity to the area since October last year, and the group has raised valuable funds for charity in the process.

Now, they will be holding their own Christmas Fair on Saturday, November 16, in Welshpool Town Hall when their talent will be on display along with a host of activities. It will be held from 1pm-6pm with free entry. Santa is expected to attend.

“Cosmic Cheer started on October 1 last year and is a Stunt Cheerleading group based at Leighton Village Hall,” said the group’s Hayley Lawson. “I train the groups in stunts/lifts, tumbling, jumps and dance which we combine into a routine to perform at various events.

“Last year we performed at local carnivals, the Stand up to Cancer showcase and The Big Picnic and we also took part in the Race for Life in Shrewsbury, raising over £900 for cancer research!

“We are looking to perform at the carnivals again and are on the lookout for further events too for next year and have also recently put together a team who will be attending eight cheerleading competitions around the UK in 2020!”
