Maldwyn Harriers were celebrating three Welsh champions at the weekend following several stunning performances at the Welsh Athletics Indoor Junior Championships.

Welshpool High School pupil, Ryan Edwards, led the way, picking up a pair of gold medals in the U17 jumping events and elevating himself into the top five UK rankings for both.

Ryan (pictured) jumped a brilliant 6.42m to land gold in the Long Jump, and then leapt a personal best 13.55m to take the Triple Jump title by a whopping 1.27m from is nearest rival.

The youngster also excelled in the sprints, picking up bronze in the 200m in a time of 23.98 seconds, but earlier in the day he set a new personal best of 23.66 in the heats to reach the final.

It was impressive stuff from a teenager who only came onto the athletics scene last summer.

Welshpool High School teammate, Maddie Griffiths, and Newtown student, Aled Breeze (both pictured), have started the long distance running year in style, winning the girls and boys U15 3,000m titles respectively.

Maddie came home in a new personal best time of 10 minutes 54.07 seconds to win by more than seven seconds, while Aled stopped the clock on 10 minutes dead for another medal to join to his burgeoning collection.
