Turning the tables on poverty

A Welshpool school has done its bit to try and help school kids in Kenya enjoy a better education.

The Friends of Welshpool Church in Wales Primary School held a number of events to raise money for the Kenya Schools Project, an Oswestry-based charity set up by husband and wife team, Bill & Lynn Morris, who visit Kenyan schools twice a year taking resources that can be used.

Thanks to the support of the community over the last few months, the Friends of Welshpool Church in Wales Primary were able to purchase tables made by a local craftsman in Kenya.

The school is now hoping to forge closer links with their Kenyan counterparts and Headteacher, Mrs Justine Baldwin, said: “This is a great project, which has linked our pupils to a school across the world!

“The Friends have worked hard to raise this money, and the desks serve as a reminder that despite where we live, learning matters.

“It is lovely that the name of our school is being seen so far away! The three desks are meant to commemorate the three sites that will shortly be closing as we move to our new school building.”
