Firefighters support for heroes

03/06/2020 @ 09:57

The clapping for the NHS and care workers may be over but Welshpool firefighters will still be turning out to support the community on Thursday nights.

The fire crews have been visiting care facilities, care homes and Welshpool Hospital for the past 10 weeks on Thursday nights to support the “clapping” and now intend to continue showing their appreciation for the town’s “heroes”.

Now that the clapping has come to an unofficial end, we would like to continue this for our local community, said a spokesman.

This may be driving past with the fire engine or a clap for the residents. So on Thursday evenings we will be available, pending any emergency calls, to be requested to attend local areas throughout the town to continue showing our appreciation to the heroes of the town.

This could be those that have stayed home, those that have gone to work, those children that have carried on with school work - anyone you think deserves a visit.

Tomorrow night (Thursday) the firefighters will be visiting Heather Close, off Dingle Road, where residents have been enthusiastically turning out in numbers. The area is also heavily decorated in blue and white ribbons.

The visits will be carried out with social distancing in place and following all relevant government guidelines.

Residents will be requested to stay within their property, whether this be in the doorway, porch or the end of the drive, to ensure everyone's safety.

If you know of an area of the town that you would like to nominate for the fire-crews to attend we will try our hardest to get to all over the next few weeks, said the spokesman.

We will try our best to ensure we can cover as much of the local area as possible.

If you would like the crews to call in your area give them a ring on 07805 549106.
