Welshpool firefighters continued to clap for NHS staff and care workers last night – paying tribute to a local estate at the same time.
Town Councillor Julie Arnold has been encouraging residents of Heather Close to loudly applaud every Thursday since the tributes began and last night the firefighters turned up on the estate in force.
The fire crews have been visiting care facilities, care homes and Welshpool Hospital for the past 10 weeks to support the “clapping” and now intend to continue showing their appreciation for the town’s “heroes”.
“Now that the clapping has come to an unofficial end, we would like to continue this for our local community,” said a spokesman.
“This may be driving past with the fire engine or a clap for the residents. So on Thursday evenings we will be available, pending any emergency calls, to be requested to attend local areas throughout the town to continue showing our appreciation to the heroes of the town.
The visits was carried out with social distancing in place and following all relevant government guidelines.
“If you know of an area of the town that you would like to nominate for the fire-crews to attend we will try our hardest to get to all over the next few weeks,” said a spokesman.
“We will try our best to ensure we can cover as much of the local area as possible.”
If you would like the crews to call in your area give them a ring on 07805 549106.
