Mid-Wales Housing Association has handed over the keys to the first residents moving in to Welshpool’s latest housing development, with the remainder of the properties set to be completed by December.
Clos Gungrog and Bron Gungrog consist of 54 affordable homes of 2, 3 and 4-bedroomed properties, including 9 two-bedroomed bungalows, located close to the Flash Leisure Centre and Welshpool High School.
Fourteen of the homes will be available to buy under the Welsh Government’s ‘Rent to Own’ programme specifically aimed at people who would like to buy their own home but have struggled to save enough to take their first step onto the property ownership ladder.
Eluned Morgan AM, who visited the development site in 2019 said: “It was fantastic to visit the development and to see first-hand the great work being done here by Mid-Wales Housing Association and Pickstock Homes Ltd. For many young people, the idea of home ownership has seemed an almost impossible challenge. The Welsh Government knows how tough it can be and is committed to giving support where it matters.”
The homes are being developed with Pickstock Homes Ltd. and with significant funding assistance from the Welsh Government.
All properties have private gardens and are built to the most modern standards of thermal and energy performance.
Mr. Nick Scott from Pickstock Homes Ltd said: “Pickstock Homes has enjoyed working in close partnership with Mid-Wales Housing Association to assist in the delivery of this exciting new residential scheme serving the local community in Welshpool.”
Mid-Wales Housing said it has promoted local employment and opportunities through the scheme’s procurement with the construction contract requiring that the contractor employed 80% local labour and provided training placements for building trade apprentices.
Significant elements of the houses, such as timber frames and many of the building materials, have been supplied by local companies.
