Andrew conquers Scottish Highlands

20/09/2020 @ 08:11

Welshpool adventurer Andrew Paddison has completed the 500-mile loop around the Scottish Highlands on his adapted handbike in just six days.

Last year Andrew and his support team travelled the length of Britain and captivated an army of local followers, raising money for charity and now he has done it again, including over 32,000ft of climbing - the equivalent of Mount Everest.

The achievement was even more remarkable considering Andrew, who lives just outside Welshpool, used a handbike, having been born with no right leg, two short arms and a curved spine.

Speaking to MyWelshpool an exhausted but excited Andrew said: “Team Paddison has just completed the NC500 on an adapted handbike, 500 miles around the North Coast of Scotland with 32,000ft of climbing.

“We were riding for Save Lives, a charity aiming to end domestic violence.

Andrew pointed out that Covid-19 had resulted in a rise in domestic violence. “Whilst training I was listening to the Emma Barnett Show on Radio 5 and was emotionally moved by a story relating to domestic violence after which I was determined to raise money for the charity,” he said.
