Well done John!

Welshpool cancer survivor John Evans has been recognised by the Lingen Davies Cancer Trust for raising thousands of pounds for the charity over the years.

John organises an annual spinathon and held this year’s event on St David’s Day shortly before the country was plunged into lockdown.

He was now been awarded the ‘Challenger Event Award’ and was quick to thank everyone for the support he has received.

“It was a great pleasure, but pleasant surprise, to learn that I had been awarded the ‘Challenger Event Award’ from The Lingen Davies Cancer Trust. An award that I accept with pride and many thanks,” he said.

“When we gathered on St. David’s Day earlier this year at The Flash Leisure Centre to start our fundraising Spinathon in aid of the Lingen Davies Cancer Trust, I had no idea of the devastating and tragic year we all had ahead of us.

“We were lucky as we were able, with the help of our small team, to collect the promised sponsorship monies, which incidentally was our best amount so far.”

John said he has “no idea” if and when next year’s spinathon will be held.

“This is so disappointing as fundraising bodies such as Lingen Davies rely a great deal on the income from fundraising events to keep providing the fantastic service that they do so well,” he said.
