They may not have celebrated on Broad Street like previous years, but Montgomery still brought in the New Year in style!
With Covid-19 keeping us at home, a video was prepared for residents containing a goodwill message from the Mayor, Haydn Andrew, together with a countdown to midnight and a message pre-recorded by the Town Crier, Sue Blower.
The video, which was edited by Claire and Mark Weston, was enhanced by heart-warming photographs contributed by a number of local people, showing them linking arms as though they were coming together at midnight, with a soundtrack of Auld Lang Syne from local singers and musicians, each recorded separately at home the preceding week.
It proved a hit with residents who watched it nearly 2,000 times within 12 hours offing posted just before midnight and was watched as far away as the USA, South Africa, and New Zealand, from where Michelle Logan wished everyone a Happy New Year.
The Mayor said: “Thank you everyone involved in this uplifting video for their contributions and hard work in putting it together. Happy new year to all.”
Residents also took to their doorsteps or windows with lights at midnight, to connect with their neighbours in a different way this year.
The video is available to view on the town’s facebook page at fb.me/montgomerypowys and YouTube channel via tinyurl.com/MontyCCC.
