Girl guiding on the way back!

01/12/2021 @ 09:40

Montgomery is set to welcome back Guides, Brownies and Rainbows after they were stopped in 2020 due to a lack of helpers.

Following a grant from Powys County Council and sponsorship from Milwyn Jenkins & Jenkins Solicitors, the Revive 2022 Project will see the three groups return in the New Year to enable young girls aged from 4 to 14 to enjoy new activities and experiences.

The groups closed last year when all but one of the leaders and helpers had to step down for personal reasons, but they did make a special appearance at the recent Remembrance Parade in Montgomery (pictured).

“The generous funding received will first of all provide publicity leaflets and posters to encourage local people to join the Revive 2022 Project by offering a little of their time to re-open the groups,” said a spokesperson.

“Volunteers hope to be running the Rainbow unit (4-7 year olds), the Brownie unit (7-10 year olds) and the Guide unit (10-14 year olds) at the Montgomery Activity Centre on Friday afternoons and evenings.

“They would, of course love to hear from anyone who would like to be a leader, an assistant leader or a regular helper in one of the groups, but they would also really like to hear from anyone able to help them out occasionally, perhaps once or twice a term, at special events, or maybe behind the scenes.”

The Revive 2022 Project funding will also provide ‘welcome packs’ for all of the girls who join the newly re-opened groups, and will cover costs such as room hire and Covid-19 safety supplies for the first few months after re-opening.

Project leader, Ruth Anton-Stephens, added: “Girlguiding welcomes help from anyone aged 18 to 80+, both women and men. We also have opportunities for young women aged 14-17 to help out as Young Leaders. Please get in touch if you might be able to help out, even if just once in a while, you could make all the difference to being able to open up the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides again.”
