Young people at Ysgol Llanfyllin are making a difference by supporting local charities

Students from Ysgol Llanfyllin have been tackling social issues by supporting local charities as part of a programme provided by a social action charity First Give.

Year 9 students have engaged in social action in support of their chosen charities, and have will competed in Ysgol Llanfyllin’s School Ffinal, making presentations which were judged to see which class would be awarded a £1,000 First Give grant for their charity.

The winners were: DPJ Foundation from class 9A En2. The pupils raised awareness of this very important mental health charity by having a “Wear Wellies Day”, conducting an assembly online and by promoting information about the charity around the school site.

A special award of commendation was also given to the pupils from 9A En1, who were supporting Shelter Cymru.

Dewi Owen, Head teacher said: “This has been an amazing opportunity for our young people to take the lead on important issues within our local community.

“I was amazed at their levels of confidence when they were presenting their final findings to their whole year group. The First Give project has had a hugely positive effect on our whole school family. Huge congratulations to the winning team and to all pupils who took part.”
