Rail group clears up uncertainties

17/03/2022 @ 10:27

The closure of the rail line to Welshpool for the past few weeks has thrown many a travel plan into chaos.

The damage from the trio of storms resulted in a massive repair bill, but the work is expected to be completed in time for Easter.

Confusion over ticket purchase, the replacement bus service times and pick-up points haven’t helped as users vented their frustration online.

But the Welshpool Rail Users Facebook group has done an admirable job in trying to stay abreast of the latest developments, and has published a Q&A document so that users can stay up-to-date.

Whilst Transport for Wales have been trying to support their customers, the difficulty for them is that they can't possibly be aware of all the questions quite legitimately raised by Welshpool residents wishing to use the railway,” said Ken Law, the group administrator.

“This is where the value of a Facebook group such as the Welshpool Rail Users has come to the fore. The group is lucky to have so many knowledgeable members, some of which are current or former Cambrian Line employees, allied with users prepared to share their real-time rail travelling experiences.

“The line is still going to be closed until early April and we have compiled a list of commonly asked questions and answers to help would-be travellers.”
