Welshpool High School pupils were given an excellent opportunity by Wynne Construction to have a look at the new primary school being built for Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng.

Key stage 4 pupils had a site visit to Maesydre and gained valuable knowledge regarding career opportunities in the construction industry.

Working with Careers Wales and Wynne Construction, pupils previously experienced a virtual talk in school and this week visited the site to see at first hand the different trades in action.

Assistant site manager Dyfed Edwards explained to the pupils his journey within Wynne Construction and provided the pupils with a very informative tour of the site.

Bricklaying, Plumbing, Plastering, Electrical Installation, Carpentry and Quantity Surveying were all discussed and linked to real life scenarios on site. Pupils could ask questions and could see examples of different trades working on site.

Some pupils on the visit were past pupils of Maesydre Primary School and expressed their excitement for the new school and for the pupils of Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng. All pupils were very grateful to Wynne Construction for inviting them for a visit and returned to school feeling inspired and motivated with their studies.

Dyfed Edwards, assistant site manager, Wynne Construction said: “It was great to welcome the pupils to site today, and really pleased that they found the visit useful.  We are always keen to help pupils understand the variety of opportunities that can be found in the built environment and seeing this first hand is really useful.

“As this is a Passivhaus design building too, we hope they can visit again to see the progress being made and what is involved in this type of sustainable construction.”
